Usually skipSkip it unless the award is very well known.

My take
I'd skip awards unless they're very well known and come from top organizations. Company awards and small competitions rarely count, and an award you pay to enter doesn't help.
What usually counts
- National or international awards that experts judge
- Top places in competitions that your whole field knows
What usually does not count
- Awards from your company or school
- Awards that you pay to enter
- Certificates for taking part
How to build it
- Find realistic awards. Look at awards from professional societies, top conferences and major publications.
- Check each award. It must be free to enter, judged by experts and hard to win.
- Apply only if it fits. If no award fits yet, spend the time on judging and papers.
Proof to save
- The award announcement
- The list of winners
- Facts about how selective it is
Questions
Do paid awards help an O-1A?
No. An award that you pay to enter does not show recognition from your field. It can also make your case look weaker.
This is what worked for me, not legal advice. Talk to an immigration lawyer about your case.
